Adult-Friendly Silverwood – The Coeur d’Alene Resort

This time of year, The Coeur d’Alene Resort offers a package that includes an overnight stay for two and general admission to Silverwood Theme Park & Boulder Beach Water Park. As a serial date planner, it dawned on me that a stay at The Coeur d’Alene Resort plus a day at Silverwood would make the perfect weekend getaway (or in my case as a Coeur d’Alene local, the perfect staycation).
Like many people I know, I grew up knowing and loving Silverwood as a family-fun theme park (which it certainly is!), but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it has just as much to offer as a day date option for couples. Located just 30 minutes from The Resort, this Wild-West-themed park boasts over 65 rides, shows, and attractions. With so many options, I knew there had to be some adult-friendly attractions there – and Silverwood delivered.
After exploring the park on opening weekend with my boyfriend, John, I came away with some insider tips and unexpected delights for fun-loving couples adventuring to Silverwood.
Upon arrival, check out…
The endless barbeque options. I’m not shy to admit that our top priority when we got to Silverwood was to scout out food options, and I’m happy to report that our findings were downright delicious. I was surprised to find that Silverwood offers old-fashioned barbeque around every corner. Both “Chuckwagon John’s” and “Country BBQ” serve menu items like pulled pork, grilled chicken, and hotdogs reminiscent of summertime. I’m not much of a barbeque connoisseur myself, but John is from St. Louis (a barbeque mecca). If he says it’s great barbeque, the review can be trusted.
“Lindy’s” Restaurant. If you’re not a barbeque fan, visit “Lindy’s”, conveniently located right inside the park entrance. This sweet spot is a full service restaurant with a wild west feel. Think burgers, sunny patio, refreshing drinks, and the best people-watching seats in the house.
For an adrenaline rush, try…
“Timber Terror”. Here’s a ride to awaken your inner child (or in my case, a child-like scream I didn’t know I had in me). John and I bonded over the unexpected rush of equal parts total terror and pure joy. This ride may have been my favorite memory from our day at Silverwood.
The “Corkscrew” and “Aftershock”. The names of these rides really say it all. Not for the faint of heart, these particular roller coasters deliver world-class twists, turns, and thrills. John remained unphased by Silverwood’s famous roller coasters, ever-tolerant of me simultaneously clawing him, shrieking, and laughing uncontrollably.
For a midday pick-me-up, enjoy…
“Downrush Slush”. By mid-day at Silverwood, we were heating up (from both the sunshine and roller coaster adrenaline). At Downrush Slush, we each ordered a watermelon slushie and felt immediately refreshed. This nostalgic drink sparked memories of the good ol’ days of youth, running through sprinklers and eating Otter Pops.
Kettle corn. For those with a sweet tooth (or appreciation for throwback carnival treats), look out. Silverwood’s kettle corn is extra tasty, and extra addicting.
A little friendly competition. Stop by the “Shooting Gallery” for a lower-key, laughter-filled option. John and I faced off in the classic carnival alleyway, “Midway Games”. Although he came away with a hefty 15-3 win, I was left feeling optimistic about trying ring toss next.

for a peaceful water break, visit…
Silverwood’s botanical garden. Did you know there’s a delightful little botanical garden at Silverwood? It’s tucked away behind the ferris wheel, with blooming landscapes that make you want to stop and smell the roses. We found this area to be a perfect post-roller-coaster resting point and a shady, peaceful water break.
The train station. When you’re ready to get off of your feet and debrief on your favorite rides, take a trip on historic Engine No. 7. The train meandered through the park and took us on a whimsical journey through the backwoods, reminding me that we were still in the Pacific Northwest.
The ferris wheel. For a Notebook-esque experience, take a ride on the most classic of all theme park rides: the ferris wheel. This was my personal favorite ride, because I don’t have a need for speed, and I’m overly enthusiastic about finding beautiful views. The best view of the whole park awaits you at the top of the ferris wheel.
To cap off your day of adventure, visit…
“High Moon Saloon”. When you’re ready for a nice cold adult beverage, there are a few places you can say ‘cheers!’ to your day date. Enjoy a pit stop at “Cabana Cooler” if you’re still on the go, or take a seat at “High Moon Saloon” for a beer. The saloon even offers live music while you sip and enjoy each other’s company.
Beverly’s at The Coeur d’Alene Resort. What better way to cap off a day of adventure than a relaxing evening? After our day at Silverwood, John and I headed back to The Coeur d’Alene Resort for our favorite happy hour at Beverly’s on the 7th Floor. Over our ahi tuna tower and baked brie en croute appetizers, we spent the evening reminiscing about childhood theme park memories and the new, whimsical memories we made at Silverwood.
