This year we welcome a festive Christmas-inspired question from Staci, a Hayden, Idaho local.
Question for Chef Heinig:
Hi there Chef Tim!
My question today is in regards to holiday meals! Myself, as well as my family, LOVE Thanksgiving and Christmas due to the important fact that the food is so darn delicious! With that being said, we would like to mix things up a bit this year. We are doing the traditional turkey, potatoes, gravy and stuffing for Thanksgiving, but what can we do for Christmas that will help “spice” up our routine a bit? We would like to think outside the box of the long-time-honored meat and potatoes.
We look forward to hearing your fun-filled ideas!
Staci L. (Hayden, Idaho)
Answer from Chef Heinig:
Happy Holidays Staci!
What a great question! Although I also love the traditional food items that come with the holiday season, I also appreciate the concept of adding unique foods and dishes to your customary routine! Not only does this add a bit of fun to your annual holiday cooking routine in the kitchen itself, but the family will also love the unique (and exciting) change as well! I have quite a few suggestions that will help zest up your Christmas dinner this December:
Suggestion #1: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Taco Bar!
You could do a Mexican theme and have a taco bar! This would involve all of your guests in which you can assign one topping to each visitor attending. Not only would a taco bar make it collaborative evente, but it would also take the pressure off of spending your entire day in the kitchen instead of with your friends and family!
Suggestion #2: Tis the season for Fish & Chips!
Who doesn’t love Fish and Chips? Feature this classic entrée with a side of sweet potato french fries to help make your Christmas a unique one! (Want to add a festive twist? Whip up a homemade cranberry tartar sauce to dip your scrumptious fries in!)
Suggestion #3: I’m Dreaming of a White SALMON Christmas!
If you can’t already tell by now, I sure do love me some good ol’ tasty fish! If you’d really like to treat your guests to a tasty Christmas meal that is out of the ordinary, try serving up a delicious grilled salmon with a white wine butter lemon sauce! Can you say YUMMY?
Suggestion #4: All I want for Christmas is Lamb Chops!
If you’re looking for a unique yet challenging twist to your ordinary Christmas meal, I highly recommend you give Lamb Chops a whirl. Not only are these tasty chops a distinctive favorite, but you can also top them with a tasty thyme honey butter sauce served with white cheddar scallop potatoes to REALLY impress your guests!
Suggestion #5: Peace, love, joy and PRIME RIB!
You simply can’t go wrong with this classic: melt-in-your-mouth pork prime rib served with a delicious apple au jus. This will allow your guests to slow down and enjoy the food and company of everybody present at your holiday festivities. Remarkable, delicious, and 100% enjoyable for guests with all tastes!
Happy eating and happy holidays!
Well there ya’ have it folks: plenty of tasty ideas for your holiday eating itinerary!
