Over 22,000 stunning “Tango Red” geraniums are planted among the grounds at The Coeur d’Alene Resort and its properties every year, and the 2019 fun kicked off bright and early on Monday, May 20th on the edge of Lake Coeur d’Alene!
The planting of these vibrant flowers is a special occasion that our Resort community looks forward to every May. Not only have these brilliant red flowers become an icon of The Coeur d’Alene Resort, but of our beautiful North Idaho region as a whole.
These elegant blossoms, which were Mr. Duane Hagadone’s Mother’s favorite flowers, began their lives in the soil of their new Resort home Monday, May 20th: the official Resort Geranium Day of 2019. Dozens of Resort Team Members kicked off the planting on “Geranium Hill”, the large flower bed in the front of The Coeur d’Alene Resort.
Now that the hill is painted red with vibrancy and life, the gardening mission continues at The Hagadone Event Center at The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course, The Boardwalk Bridge, The Hagadone Corporation Office, The Plaza Shops, The Johnston Building, The Coeur d’Alene Press, The Hagadone Marine Complex and The Silver Beach Marina.
Geranium Day here at The Resort truly signifies the kick off summer here in Coeur d’Alene. Our first shipment of 12,500 geraniums arrived on Monday morning at around 7:00 am, which were all used at The Resort itself. Wednesday will be the final day of planting, taking place at the Hagadone Event Center. The Landscaping Team will receive approximately 5,050 geraniums for the Event Center grounds.
There are three steps to the geranium-planting process: drill, drop and toss. First, a hole is drilled in the dirt to fit the plant. Second, the geranium is dropped in position. Third, a detailer removes and tosses the plastic from the plant and then packs the dirt snugly around it to secure its position for the season.
This Geranium Day truly was the best one yet! The all-hands-on-deck approach brings employees from all different departments together and the warm spring sunshine made for a lovely morning. We even had a couple guests plant their own geraniums on “Geranium Hill”. Make sure to visit us this summer and check out the vibrant red flowers- all planted with love by our Resort Team Members!
