If there’s one thing I do to make my life a little brighter during the week, it is meeting up with friends and enjoying happy hour at Whispers. The choice is yours, and it is simple – why wouldn’t you want to enjoy a stunning view of the lake while sipping a perfectly mixed cocktail with your closest pals?
Whispers does so many things right. The ambiance is nothing short of pure luxury. The fabrics are cozy and calming, the fireplaces in the evening provide a dramatic backdrop, and during the day, the sight of the water is soothing as only nature can be.
The drinks are their specialty, and it shows. Just check out this showstopper that you can share with your friends – the Deep 6. It’s a gorgeous king (or queen) size Mai Tai-inspired cocktail that is nothing short of famous after being on the menu for 13 years straight. Tropical flavors of pineapple juice, orgeat, rum and citrus juices give this drink a depth and flavor. You’ll instantly get a beachy vibe when you take a sip, even if the weather outside isn’t beach-worthy. It’s a vacation in a glass. Just be aware that it will make every table around you turn and look in awe. Don’t worry, you won’t cause envy; you will be a trendsetter. Nearby tables will want to order one, too!
Jake, the head mixologist at Whispers had his first job at The Resort at four years old in a commercial, and 29 years later, he still can’t get enough of serving others at the hotel. He suggests trying the show-stopping Bloody Boss, which is a giant Bloody Mary that is topped with some crazy-fun snacks – grilled cheese sandwiches, sliders, shrimp, sausage, bacon and more.
All that talk of food makes me hungry, and luckily the team at Whispers has some great choices of appetizers for sharing, and I’ll give you a full rundown of my favorites. I always order the prime rib sliders right away. You’ll crave this tender, juicy beef with a choice of toppings: pickled onions, au jus, and horseradish cream. The favorite of our table was the crispy Idaho potato skins with a Tillamook cheddar cheese blend, smoked bacon scallions, tomatoes, sour cream, and house-made salsa. Each bite is just as delicious as the first. Locally adored Cougar Gold cheese (from Washington State University) was the star in the Cougar Gold Melting Pot with a blend of Northwest cheeses, artichoke hearts, onions, toasted baguettes, and house-fried kettle chips. Each of these menu items are available to select as a part of their sampler trio, which comes on this celebratory three-tiered display, and you get to choose which three you’d like to share. Now, that’ll be a guaranteed way to have a great night relaxing by the water with the people who make you smile.
Revel in the cool vibes at this waterfront lounge.
