Downtown Coeur d’Alene is buzzing with absolute excitement as we prepare for the annual Ironman Competition this upcoming Sunday, August 21st, 2016! The entire Ironman Crew has been working hard throughout the town this past week to set up for this remarkable world-renowned competition. Triathletes are running the sidewalks and swimming the shores to prepare for their upcoming race day. The Resort lobby is filling with participants who are checking-in from near and far. All the while I am sitting here hiding behind my computer eating donut-holes and Girl Scout Cookies wondering what it would possibly feel like to run an entire marathon (and MORE!).
Athletes will kick-start their day with a two-loop, 2.4-mile swim in the crisp and pristine waters of Lake Coeur d’Alene. Next is the two-loop, 112-mile picturesque bike course that features a scenic 80-mile stretch for participants to endure. The running loops along the breathtaking shores of the lake, offering stunning views for the athletes to enjoy (or at least attempt to enjoy) during the last leg of their race. Whether it be the immaculate beauty of the course or the high energy and positivity of the spectators, Ironman Coeur d’Alene is truly a favorite among the locals, the athletes, their friends and their families!
For all of our Resort-goers this weekend, we want to be sure that you can get to and from the Resort without any confusion (or any blood, sweat, and tears, either!). By following these directions, you are guaranteed to make it to us in one piece:
1. Take Exit 14 off of I-90 (15th Street Exit)
2. Turn right on 15th Street
3. Turn right on Young Avenue
4. Turn right on 8th Street
5. Turn left on Front Avenue
6. Follow Front Avenue to The Coeur d’Alene Resort
Coming from a gal who participates in triathlons that are a small fraction of the length of Ironman (and I mean it when I say SMALL), witnessing these athletes compete in a race that they have trained for months on end to complete is truly an inspiring and spectacular experience. If you get the opportunity to head over to observe this remarkable event, I must recommend that you also take some time to pop over to one of our many Resort restaurants to hydrate and fuel up as you spectate in the hot summer heat (hey, even just watching the athletes work hard takes a lot of energy, okay?).
So grab a friend, pack some sunscreen, and get ready to watch some of our nations most talented athletes do what they love best – swim hard, bike fast, and run like the absolute wind! Good luck to all of the 2016 Ironman CDA athletes!
Until next time,
